“They don’t know we know they know we know.”
I love Friends. It’s the best sitcom ever. For those uninitiated, Friends is a 90’s situational comedy show. There are six main characters and the show basically revolves around their lives.
I recently came across a viz about the show Avatar by Pradeep Kumar G. It got me interested to make one for my favourite show and I knew it had to be F.R.I.E.N.D.S.
So, let’s dive right in.
The first episode aired on September 22, 1994. There are a total of 10 seasons aired every consecutive year. The last episode was aired on May 6, 2004, which was watched by over 50 Million US viewers.
Did you know F.R.I.E.N.D.S. was in Top-5 TV Shows for all seasons after the first season?
The average IMDB ratings stayed over 8 throughout the series run.
Interestingly, even though the show specifically talks about the struggles of young adults(25–30), it received a rating of 8.9 from viewers in the 30–44 age group. Most ratings were also received from the same cohort.
Female viewers liked the series better than their male counterparts.
The show is most well-liked by female viewers in the 18–29 age group.
Did you know how many writers and directors made F.R.I.E.N.D.S. possible?
125 writers and 28 directors created a total of 236 Episodes which is roughly 5104 minutes worth of content.
David Schwimmer a.k.a. Ross Geller actually directed 10 episodes. Even though the main writers were David Crane and Marta Kauffman, some episodes were written by as many as 4 writers. In fact, the main theme song “I’ll be there for you” was also written by David Crane, Marta Kauffman, Michael Skloff and Allee Willis.
Were the characters popular?
Google searches were probably not that popular back in the ’90s. The google searches shot all-time high in September 2019 when the cast celebrated the show’s 25th anniversary.
OH… MY… GAWD!!!
You might think that Janice played by Maggie Wheeler would emerge a champion when it comes to the dialogue — ‘Oh My God!’. Well, you are in for a surprise.
The champion is Rachel Green. She says the phrase 248 times as opposed to 14 times by Janice.
Between Rachel and Monica, they manage to say this phrase 51% of the time it was uttered.
Who was the most chatty?
Well, if you are wondering who spoke the most during the entire series, it’s Rachel Green again.
Rachel and Ross spoke the most dialogues during the entire series. Whereas Phoebe got the least lines. But that didn’t stop her from entertaining us. In fact, she is my favourite out of all six.
Who’s your favourite character?

Hope you enjoy seeing the viz as much as I enjoyed making it.
Until next time!
